A Wedding Story

A Wedding Story
by Dee Tenorio
ebook, 35 pages
Published June 13th 2011

Ruth Anne Barbellis—unhappily nicknamed "Rhubarb" by her lifelong enemy, Bobby Wichowski—is in Wedding Hell. Why?
Her sister is marrying Bobby's brother.
She's trussed up in a bridesmaid dress that must have been designed originally as a Victorian Torture Chamber.
To teach them a lesson, she and Bobby have been assigned to the Kiddie Table.
And that's only the beginning...

Short but definitely cute story between two mortal frenemies.. Or so they thought.

Ruth Ann aka Rhubarb was stuck in a tight-fitting, torture-laden bridesmaid dress and the only way to get out of it was to ask for help, from whoelse but Bobby.

Will Bobby help Rhubarb in her predicament, or would he rather stay with the ever-inquisitive kids at the Kiddie table? Will there still be a wedding when the bridesmaid had gone missing?

This is one of the short stories that definitely made me smile. You may think that being a short one, it should be lengthened or expanded. But not for me. I already enjoyed the quirky scenes and relentless banter between the two main characters. There were butterflies in my stomach while I was imagining their big “fight” in an uncomfortable bathroom waiting for someone to assist them. The ending? I loved it!

Truth is, while I was reading A Wedding Story, it was like I was watching one of the earliest episodes of Friends from Season 1, where Phoebe is Rhubarb and Bobby is Joey Tribbiani. Oh yes, they were actually my favorites from the tv series, so I thought of these two stars as Rhubarb & Bobby, and it definitely clicked!

Just imagine this dialogue from the book like the way Phoebe talks to Joey:

Rhubarb: You are the reason fungus exists! You are the slime that grows in swamps that even the acids can’t break down….

Bobby: How long do you plan to keep this up, Rhubarb?

Rhubarb: Why?

Bobby: Because I was going to hail down a bottle of beer, I figured you might be thirsty for having your mouth open so much…

Rhubarb: Make it white wine and I’ll keep it short..
I don’t know about you but that scene was simply hilarious! This book is highly recommended if you want to take a quick nap or on the beach, or waiting for someone to show up. I assure you, after reading this, you wont get mad if the person you are waiting for arrived a little late.

4 **** for Dee Tenorio and A Wedding Story. ^.^.

The Countess (Bride Quest Book 4)

By Claire Dela Croix

P.S.
I really like the cover of this book. The lady looks elegant but there is mischief in her eyes! I wish I had read the first three books before this edition. I am sure this is going to be an epic book from Ms Delacroix.. :)

Always The Last to Know

Title: Always The Last to Know
Author: Crystal Bowling
Kindle edition
Published 2009
Summary from Goodreads:
Wearing a Maid of Honor dress that very well may cause the South to want to rise again, Jess Reynolds is prepared to walk down the aisle at her best friend’s wedding. It’s just that things keep getting in the way, like a sex-crazed coworker, an annoying brother-of-the-bride, and a handsome and horribly charming friend posing as the Best Man. As it turns out, Jess might just be the last one to know everything, including the workings of her own heart.
I got this ebook for free from amazon and I must say, for something free like this, I had fun time reading it.

Oh, who am I kidding? I actually enjoyed reading this wonderful mix of romance and comedy!

Jessica Reynolds is bestfriends with Carla Callahan who was going to get married to Evan Winters. I’d say that Carla is some kind of a bridezilla who wanted everything organized, wanted to be in control of everything. But she is definitely a great dear friend to Jess.

On the other hand, Jess had been tasked to do the duties of a Maid of Honor and make sure that the groom will not get cold feet, before the wedding bells ring.

Sometime before this wedding takes place, Jess met Matt Mancini, a delectable Italian guy who was not only buffed and gorgeous, but could also cook. A man who could literally make the ladies wag their tongue and drool. Could he be the One Jess has been destined to marry?

But what about her BFF’s brother? Jess and Riley Callahan had grown up together, had known each other through the years, and even had the same taste in music. Yet, they always ended up frogging or strangling each other or quarrelling over petty things. Then one day, he asked her to live with him. What’s up with that?

Actually, the story of Jess and her date to her bestfriend’s wedding was a bit predictable. The signs that she might be in love were very obvious, but then she was oblivious to the fact that the guy loved her back. It was only a matter of time before she realized that she was the last to know about her feeling, hence the title.

Although I knew that Jess and her lover boy would end up together, I continued reading the story because I didn't want to let go of the giddy feeling I was experiencing while knowing that sooner or later, Jess would finally come to her senses, thanks to her co-worker’s crazed & sex-infested mind.

This is surprisingly a very interesting book. It has funny aspects, as I certainly found myself laughing at several occasions. The writing was not hard on the eyes and I liked that it was based in Jess’ perspective, which was kind of easy to relate with. There’s also the wedding that I looked forward to because I was curious how the bride would react when his groom suddenly got cold feet.

I liked Jessica’s incoherent mumblings and smart ass remarks. The personalities of the other characters were not fully developed but it didn’t matter a lot to me since my focus was on Jess.

Overall, I am glad to have read this funny and quirky story. Recommended for your summer beach read. Expect lots of laughter and cringe-worthy scenes, in the most fashionably giggly fun way. 4 stars for author Crystal Bowling for successfully keeping me entertained until the end. ****

A Walk To Remember

Title: A Walk To Remember
Author: Nicholas Sparks
Paperback, 193 pages
Published November 1st 2007

Love is like the wind. You cannot see it but you can always feel it!

Every April, when the wind blows from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he’d fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town’s Baptist minister. A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter’s life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood…

This is by far, one of my most favorite love story authored by one of my favorite writers, Nicholas Sparks. It definitely touched my heart.

As a Christian myself, I loved Jamie’s character. She wad very inspiring; she didn’t lose hope.  She was able to reach out and changed Landon’s character for the better. There was not a single moment that I did not cry.

Some interesting notes I discovered about the book:

Did You Know?—

That Jamie was named after Nicholas’s editor, Jamie Raab?

That Landon is the name of his third son?

That Nicholas Sparks recorded his own reading for the audio version of the novel.

The story revolves around two North Carolina teens, Landon Carter (Shane West) and Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore), who are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is made to do community service. This heart-breaking story is definitely something that i’ll always remember, on a late afternoon…

Movie-wise, here are some of my favorite quotes:

.1. The problem isn’t finding out where you are gonna go-its figuring out what you are gonna do once you get there that is! – Jamie (Mandy Moore)

~2. Jamie: You know what I figured out today?

Landon: What?

Jamie: Maybe God has a bigger plan for me than I had for myself. Like this journey never ends. Like you were sent to me because I’m sick. To help me through all this. You’re my angel.

~3. Landon: I might kiss you.

Jamie: I might be bad at it.

Landon: That’s not possible.

~4. Jamie has faith in me. She makes me want to be different, better. – Landon (Shane West)

~5. Landon: I’m sorry she never got her miracle.

Reverend Sullivan: She did. It was you.

~6. Landon: Can you find this star, right here?

Jamie: Sure. So why am I looking for this star?

Landon: Because I had it named for you. See? It’s official. It’s from the International Star Registry.

Jamie: This is wonderful… I love you.

~7. Jamie: [after she and Landon keep switching the radio station] Forty-two.

Landon: “Forty-two”, what do you-what do you mean “forty- two”?

Jamie: Forty-two is “Befriend somebody I don’t like”. It’s a to-do list I have.

Landon: What, like getting a new personality?

Jamie: Spend a year in the Peace Corps, make a medical discovery…

Landon: That’s ambitious.

Jamie: …Be in two places at once, get a tattoo.

Landon: What’s number one?

Jamie: I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.

Landon: So, what’s your number one?

Jamie: To marry in the church my mother grew up. It’s where my parents were married.

~8. Jamie: You have to promise you won’t fall in love with me.

Landon: That’s not a problem.

.~9. Jamie: Are you trying to seduce me?

Landon: Why? Are you seducible?

~10. [last lines]Landon: [voiceover] Jamie saved my life. She taught me everything. About life, hope and the long journey ahead. I’ll always miss her. But our love is like the wind. I can’t see it, but I can feel it.

Gosh, I’m getting teary eyed, again. You bet, my eyes are filled with tears. A Walk to Remember is indeed a love story that you will always remember.

wednesday www

Time flies so fast! It's the middle of the week! Here's my WWW  for this week.  WWW Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

Anyway, here are my answers for this week:
As always, I make sure that my books are organized, may it be on my Kindle or on my wooden shelf. Since it is June, it is the wedding month, and part of my routine is to read based on themes. So most of the books I read have wedding stories.
Currently Reading: A Walk To Remember
One of my favorite love stories of all time. The title itself means the long walk to the altar, the walk that was meant for Jamie Sullivan, the walk that she and Landon would always remember.

Truth is, I have already read this novel more than five years ago. But since this is the wedding month and I kind of missed Nicholas Sparks, I decided to read A Walk to Remember one more time.

  Recently Finished Reading:
 Done with the following:
A Wedding Story by Dee Tenorio
Always the Last To Know by Crystal Bowling
Married By Mistake by Abby Gaines
I'm goona write reviews for each of those stories very soon!!

Will Read Next:
Hmm.. Probably, The Fairy Tale Bride (Once Upon a Wedding #1) by Kelly McClymer

So what are your books this Wednesday? Happy Wednesday!

Monday Musing - 06/17

It's the month of Weddings!!

Welcome to another Musing Mondays. This is a weekly meme hosted by MizB from Should be Reading.

Musing Mondays (Oct. 3)

Musing Mondays asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!

Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

This week I am musing about: what I’m currently reading:

Since it's the Wedding Season, I already piled my To-B-Reads with stories that have wedding themes. So far, I've finished, Married by Mistake by Abby Gaines and "Always the Last To Know" by Crystal Bowling.

Today, I am reading: Dee Tenorio's A Wedding Story

Ruth Anne Barbellis—unhappily nicknamed "Rhubarb" by her lifelong enemy, Bobby Wichowski—is in Wedding Hell. Why?

Musing Monday - June

Today, my musing is about the "one of my reading habitsI usually read e-books on my Kindle, (which I call Kendra by the way) from Mondays to Fridays. Sometimes, I can finish up to 3 ebooks per week; depends on the length of the book. But I always make sure that I finish them until Friday night.

Why? Because when Saturday comes, I see to it that Kendra gets her much needed sleep.
Instead of continuously perusing her, I attack my bookshelf and read the first that my hand would touch. That way, my paperbacks and hardbounds won't feel neglected at all.

Truth is, when I got my Kindle a year ago, I  absentmindedly but unintentionally abandoned my books, in favor of Kendra. I actually forgot about them for about two months.

My oh my. That is something I will never do again. I love books. Both the digital kind and the paperback/hardbounds. I think my world is a better place because I have my books, family and friends.

I have more reading habits to share, but this is it for now. How about you? What's your habit? .

my Fairy Tale

A few days ago, I saw one of my old notebooks lying atop my dresser and I couldn't help but read through pages and reminisce the years when I was still writing poems for myself and for my friends.. Suddenly, nostalgia breaks away from my grasp and had me walking down memory lane..

My fingers walked through the pages of my notebook and voila! I found myself reading my very own Fairy Tale which i have originally written in year 1999! It was about a masked stranger, a princess and a vampire.. wow! So my fascination with vampires started in College, huh... I just realized, my addiction to vampires have grown massively. *rolls eyes*yeah that Twilight thing started it all, obviously *.

Anyway, back to my nostalgia, let me share with you the poem or tale that i have composed more than 10 years ago, (dated August 25, 1999 to be exact)... It was about a princess, which i named Arianne, *of course, i should be the starring role!* and her adventure with a masked man and a vampire who almost slit her throat.. ugh! I think i made this "fairy tale" the day after our college Students' Day (after i got hand-cuffed in a marriage booth! memories!)

Okay.. here goes my Fairy Tale...

fairytale

Once upon a time, a tale brought forth the roar of the tides,
that clashed through waves across the miles..
In this infinite dimension, a flowing desert appeared,
which created shadows that cast each day of the year…

Once upon a time, a castle stood still with brilliance,
with the wind that breezed through the golden sand,
A Castle within the breast of the ocean and the earth,
embraced the pillows of a princess at birth…

Days, months and years have passed,
the little baby princess bloomed at last,
Given the name Arianne , so delicate & full of charm
Serenaded by a throng of lads, from near & far..

The beautiful princess was loved by everyone,
kings & dukes courted her, even from faraway kingdoms..
but she wasn’t interested in any of them, no one could be compared
for she was after the man on the book that she have read..

One starless night, gazing from the window,
a shadow moved along the golden wall..
turning her head, the princess gasped for breath
when a masked stranger approached and scared her to death…

But the man in mysterious mask smiled and said later,
“Don’t be afraid, I’m just here to seek for shelter,”
He said, he was being chased by a vampire,
so, like a cat, he crept the castle so high…

Suddenly, a lightning struck and torn the sky,
and a bat-like creature shrieked through the night,
A vampire appeared and fire came out from his burning eyes
but the stranger was quick to avoid the flash of light…

Terrified, Princess Arianne ran for her precious life..
through the outskirts of her vast room, she turned to hide,
but the vampire caught her wrist and tried to bite,
as he held her head so high, with all of his might…

The masked man suddenly held out his sword,
a fine sharp lance, shimmering with gold,
with all his power, with full force on one swift move,
he thrust the sword directly to the vampire’s throat..

too late… the blood already drifted from the princess shoulder,
but she still managed to glance at the masked stranger..
Expertly, he held the vampire and threw him on the fire
and blinded the devil with a crucifix, until he lost his life..

Dreamily, Arianne felt a kiss on her forehead,
but when she opened her eyes, the stranger had vanished..
She thought, she had a nightmare and she became afraid,
yet when she turned around, she found a shoe on her bed…

A year slipped away so fast,
Arianne could never forget the man with a mask,
until one day, she went to a masquerade party,
heart beating, she saw the man she longed to see!

“Have you found my left shoe?” was all he asked..
Then he smiled so sweetly, glowing beneath the mask.
Arianne held out her hand, longing to touch his face,
she was held in a trance, she didn’t know what to say..

The man stole a kiss and said, “I miss you, my dear princess”
She asked for his name, but at first he hesitated…
Instead, he removed his mask and asked for her hand,
but Arianne’s steps retreated and ran as fast as she can..

Surprised, with eyes so wide, she turned her back,
she went to her room and saw her book, torn & scratched,
a page was missing, was all she could see,
amidst the dark lonely night, the moon shone brightly…

Slowly, she traced back her steps and returned to the ball
still expecting to see her masked man dancing on the hall,
down the corridor, she saw him glanced above and grinned,
when he smiled his sweetest smile, she knew this was no longer a dream..

Arianne and her prince danced through the night,
when daytime broke, she let out a sigh,
“Will you marry me? “the prince proposed to her,
and soon they lived happily ever after…

She Belongs To Me

Title: She Belongs To Me
Author: Carmen DeSousa
Kindle Edition, 452 pages
Published December 23rd 2011
When wealthy construction company owner and Charlotte detective, Jordan Monroe, meets Jaynee for the first time he is awestruck and determines to make her his wife. Jaynee, however, has a history she cannot easily overcome and is fearful to submit to love. Jordan succeeds in making her his wife, but five years into their marriage he realizes she is keeping secrets. Before he can decipher her duplicity, he discovers her unconscious in their home from a gunshot wound only hours after giving her an ultimatum concerning their relationship.
With Jaynee’s life hanging in the balance, the mystery of her past drives Jordan to investigate. But what appears to be an attempted suicide turns out to be something far darker. Is someone from her past stalking her? Or worse, is someone close to Jordan trying to kill them both? As Jordan edges closer to the truth, it may be deadlier than he could ever have imagined.
The story begins with a gunshot. Jordan knew he heard a gun was fired, and when he didn't see his wife beside him on their bed, he knew something was wrong. Soon, we saw Jaynee lying with a bullet on her head. Who could have done this?

Flashback to the past: Detective Jordan Monroe believed he got struck by a "thunderbolt" when she met CJ at a restaurant. On the other hand, Caycee Jaynee or CJ told her grandmother that she might have found the man she would marry.

Five years into their marriage, one night, Jaynee was shot. Jordan was at a loss, grasping at straws, thinking who could have done such horrible act. He thought someone from Jaynee's past was catching up on her. Or maybe someone just wanted her dead. Or maybe it had something to do with business? Whatever it was, Jordan would do anything and everything to solve the mystery and be with his wife again.

I definitely liked the characters in this romantic suspense story. Jordan's wealth amazed me. Jaynee's past got me teary-eyed. Sure, she's got lots of secrets. But she was strong and determined. Their love story kept me up until 3am, just so I could prove that my guesses were correct. Yes, guesses, because three bad guys kept bugging me. Lucky me, I got my second guess right, but I didn't really stopped reading until I got to the very last page.
I also loved the pacing of the book. The story shifts back and forth between the past and the present, so the reader has an idea of what could have caused the tragedy.

I admire Carmen DeSousa's writing. She told the story in exquisite detail. She kept readers from guessing and at the same time, she knew how to keep them from coming back for more. This is one captivating tale a bookworm shouldn't miss. She Belongs To Me belongs to anyone who would do anything for the one they love.

Another highly recommended book with 5 * rating!

Writing To Heal

writing Title: Writing To Heal
Author: Lee Gliddon
Kindle edition, .mobi version
Published 2013
A tale of true love that will echo through the ages.
This is perhaps one of the most gripping Peter And Wendy love story ever told. And may also be the saddest I have ever read. Nevertheless, Writing To Heal is a short story that put a smile on my face and captured my heart.

The short story starts off with Peter narrating his tale after his therapist told him to write what he feels. Peter pours his heart out as he recounts the events that happened in his past, his family, his passion for the arts and his chance meeting with his future wife, Wendy.

Peter meets Wendy for the first time in college and he was dumbstruck by her beauty.  An artist that he was, he drawn her on paper. A clumsy attempt to talk to her caused Peter to drop his drawing, right at Wendy's feet. That scene alone made me smile.

A "you-and-me-against-the-world" kind of story blossoms between  Peter and Wendy. A college love affair soon catapults into marriage and family romance. Until a tragedy strikes one day.

I didn't prepare any tissue nor hanky when I read this story. It was already way past my bedtime when I heard myself sobbing and felt my heart aching after I learned about Peter's predicament. I can only imagine the pain that he has gone through. Although this is just a work of fiction, I was able to emphatize with the lead character and hoped that time could heal his wound. To quote Gliddon's tweet: " it is an emotional journey,  go with the journey wherever it takes u".

Highly recommended read for everyone who loves, have loved and never afraid to love again. Here's my 5 ***** rating for you, Mr. lee Gliddon, writer-extraordinaire.

Musing Mondays - June

It’s the first Monday of June. The Festival of Flowers has ended. Now, June brides are getting ready this month of weddings.

Here’s our Musing Mondays episode and I am so glad to be back on track. This meme is hosted by MizB from Should be Reading.

Musing Mondays asks bloggers to muse about one of the following each week…
Describe one of your reading habits.
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

Alright, my musing this Monday is about the “book you are currently desperate to get your hands on

In my case, I am desperate to have a copy of the newly released Cassidy Jones and the Seventh Attendant (Cassidy Jones Adventures, Book 3) by the incomparable Elise Stokes.

When the mysterious Gavin Phillips returns to Seattle after a prolonged and unexplained absence, he threatens to expose fifteen-year-old Cassidy Jones’s incredible secret: she is a superhero. But his presence is far more sinister than she realizes, for it soon becomes apparent that his hidden agenda holds a dark and dangerous intent that will unleash an unparalleled evil upon an unsuspecting world. Can Cassidy stop him before all is lost?

I enjoyed the first two books of Cassidy Jones. She had flaming red hair and newly acquired super powers PLUS a good-looking super genius sidekick named Emery. Together, they are a force to be reckoned with. SO I can’t wait till I get my hands on The Seventh Attendant. I hope to get this book next week. Yay!

Poems by Lee Gliddon

Poems [Kindle Edition]
Lee Gliddon (Author)
Published May 2013

It is not often that I get a chance to read poems with this caliber. You can actually feel the emotions of the author when he was forming the words into a collection of sentiments. There are parts that cuts like a knife, like you can feel his pain and sufferings. The heartbreak and the dark times are eloquently described in L.D. Gliddon’s Poems.

In “Our Last Goodbye”, the boy remembers the times he had with his father. Clinging to the memories they had together, the boy has to let go and move on.

With ”Love’s First Sight”, the lad fell in love with a girl the first time he laid eyes on her. My favorite lines on the poem was:

“The stars had aligned, our destinies intertwined..Our fates engraved, together we would find.Your first spoken word echoed ib my heart,Swept off my feet I flew, I knew,Right there we would share, forever and never apart. “

Ahhh.. I could melt with these words.

Other promising poems in the collection include: A Falling Star, The Rose, The Alcoholic, Silent Beauty, and Snow Angels – a heartbreaking poem about children.

On this note, I highly recommend Lee Gliddon’s collection of poems. Go, get the book and enjoy, 5 stars guaranteed!

By the way, here’s something you need to know about the author: (got this from his amazon page)
