Love is like the wind. You cannot see it but you can always feel it!
Every April, when the wind blows from the sea and mingles with the scent of lilacs, Landon Carter remembers his last year at Beaufort High. It was 1958, and Landon had already dated a girl or two. He even swore that he had once been in love. Certainly the last person in town he thought he’d fall for was Jamie Sullivan, the daughter of the town’s Baptist minister. A quiet girl who always carried a Bible with her schoolbooks, Jamie seemed content living in a world apart from the other teens. She took care of her widowed father, rescued hurt animals, and helped out at the local orphanage. No boy had ever asked her out. Landon would never have dreamed of it. Then a twist of fate made Jamie his partner for the homecoming dance, and Landon Carter’s life would never be the same. Being with Jamie would show him the depths of the human heart and lead him to a decision so stunning it would send him irrevocably on the road to manhood…
This is by far, one of my most favorite love story authored by one of my favorite writers, Nicholas Sparks. It definitely touched my heart.
As a Christian myself, I loved Jamie’s character. She wad very inspiring; she didn’t lose hope. She was able to reach out and changed Landon’s character for the better. There was not a single moment that I did not cry.
Some interesting notes I discovered about the book:
Did You Know?—
That Jamie was named after Nicholas’s editor, Jamie Raab?
That Landon is the name of his third son?
That Nicholas Sparks recorded his own reading for the audio version of the novel.
The story revolves around two North Carolina teens, Landon Carter (Shane West) and Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore), who are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is made to do community service. This heart-breaking story is definitely something that i’ll always remember, on a late afternoon…
Movie-wise, here are some of my favorite quotes:
.1. The problem isn’t finding out where you are gonna go-its figuring out what you are gonna do once you get there that is! – Jamie (Mandy Moore)
~2. Jamie: You know what I figured out today?
Landon: What?
Jamie: Maybe God has a bigger plan for me than I had for myself. Like this journey never ends. Like you were sent to me because I’m sick. To help me through all this. You’re my angel.
~3. Landon: I might kiss you.
Jamie: I might be bad at it.
Landon: That’s not possible.
~4. Jamie has faith in me. She makes me want to be different, better. – Landon (Shane West)
~5. Landon: I’m sorry she never got her miracle.
Reverend Sullivan: She did. It was you.
~6. Landon: Can you find this star, right here?
Jamie: Sure. So why am I looking for this star?
Landon: Because I had it named for you. See? It’s official. It’s from the International Star Registry.
Jamie: This is wonderful… I love you.
~7. Jamie: [after she and Landon keep switching the radio station] Forty-two.
Landon: “Forty-two”, what do you-what do you mean “forty- two”?
Jamie: Forty-two is “Befriend somebody I don’t like”. It’s a to-do list I have.
Landon: What, like getting a new personality?
Jamie: Spend a year in the Peace Corps, make a medical discovery…
Landon: That’s ambitious.
Jamie: …Be in two places at once, get a tattoo.
Landon: What’s number one?
Jamie: I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.
Landon: So, what’s your number one?
Jamie: To marry in the church my mother grew up. It’s where my parents were married.
~8. Jamie: You have to promise you won’t fall in love with me.
Landon: That’s not a problem.
.~9. Jamie: Are you trying to seduce me?
Landon: Why? Are you seducible?
~10. [last lines]Landon: [voiceover] Jamie saved my life. She taught me everything. About life, hope and the long journey ahead. I’ll always miss her. But our love is like the wind. I can’t see it, but I can feel it.
Gosh, I’m getting teary eyed, again. You bet, my eyes are filled with tears. A Walk to Remember is indeed a love story that you will always remember.
