This is a short story, a prequel to the steampunk bestseller The Girl In the Steel Corset, a book I have yet to read. The story begins with Finley Jayne who was fired from her last job after hitting her former employer's governess in the face!

Jobless, Finley went to her mother's home, hoping to find refuge for a few days. Then a wealthy matriarch hired her to be her daughter Phoebe's companion. Soon Phoebe and Finley became friends. Little did Finley know that  she was actually hired to spy on Lord Vincent, a man of science who was eerily engaged to Phoebe. I say eerily because there was something sinister about him and his house full of automatons, and wanting to wed a girl who looked like his dead wife!

Finley is a brave and loyal companion as well as a fierce heroine. She possesses great strength and character and she sure has lots of spunk! I really want to read  The Girl In the Steel Corset, really soon, because I need to know more about Finley and how she became a not-so-normal teenager with super-strength.

 The Strange Case of Finley Jayne is a quick/fast paced steampunk novella, quite entertaining and intriguing at the same time.  Young adult fans of steampunk will surely enjoy this :)

Writing To Heal

A tale of true love that will echo through the ages.

 This is perhaps one of the most gripping Peter And Wendy love story ever told. And may also be the saddest I have ever read. Nevertheless, Writing To Heal is a short story that put a smile on my face and captured my heart.

The short story starts off with Peter narrating his tale after his therapist told him to write what he feels. Peter pours his heart out as he recounts the events that happened in his past, his family, his passion for the arts and his chance meeting with his future wife, Wendy.

Peter meets Wendy for the first time in college and he was dumbstruck by her beauty.  An artist that he was, he drawn her on paper. A clumsy attempt to talk to her caused Peter to drop his drawing, right at Wendy's feet. That scene alone made me smile.

A "you-and-me-against-the-world" kind of story blossoms between  Peter and Wendy. A college love affair soon catapults into marriage and family romance. Until a tragedy strikes one day.

I didn't prepare any tissue nor hanky when I read this story. It was already way past my bedtime when I heard myself sobbing and felt my heart aching after I learned about Peter's predicament. I can only imagine the pain that he has gone through. Although this is just a work of fiction, I was able to emphatize with the lead character and hoped that time could heal his wound. To quote Gliddon's tweet: " it is an emotional journey,  go with the journey wherever it takes u".

Highly recommended read for everyone who loves, have loved and never afraid to love again. Here's my 5 ***** rating for you, Mr. lee Gliddon, writer-extraordinaire.

Scarberry Stories

But, please…remember one small, feathery detail… Henry…is a homing pigeon.

This is definitely a must-read. When Evelyn, his keeper, was kidnapped, the brave homing pigeon, Henry dashed to rescue her. He'd go anywhere and follow her, and would go back to his keeper's neighbor's house, Tammy and together, they would strive to locate her and save her from tragedy.

A homing pigeon like Henry is one-of-a-kind. His love, loyalty and devotion to Evelyn is priceless. I'd love to have a pet like him! Furthermore, the story villain mystified me until the end.

Thumbs up to Ms. Scarberry for being a great storyteller. She made me applaud for Henry, too!

I untie the note from Henry's leg & read it aloud. "Help, kidnapper is going to kill me. Evelyn." 

In addition to this, Miss Scarberry also caught my attention when I was able to read her first short story, Rag Doll.  To quote her own words:

This is not a sweet little short story about a child’s rag doll. Far from it! This is a spicy crime drama written for adults, and you’ll never see the end coming.

I definitely didn't expect the ending! Jeremy is a good father and he is someone who knows his priorities. Even though this is just a short story, I immediately liked the way things had unfold. The murderer was then discovered in the end, someone I didn't expect!

After reading, I thought Rebecca should expand the story, i'd love to read more about Todd and what lies ahead for him. But this is definitely an excellent short story with a twist.

Overall, let me just say that Rebecca Scarberry is a talented writer and I'd really love to see her write more.. Great Job Miss Scarberry :)
